Up-date fromJane Russell about Tregoyd Court Jester (Boo)

About a month ago Boo went to Brigstock and completed his first BE100, he did really well coming 22nd and got 2 FP points. He warmed up brilliantly for the dressage , but as the judge was late he got a bit  bored in the arena and when we had to canter decided to charge off, but apart from that he was quite well behaved. The show jumps were enormous, neither of us have ever jumped a course that large before,  but he made a huge effort and we were rewarded with a lovely clear. We also went clear cross country, got a few time faults but again that was to be expected as there was quite a crowd there, so he was quite spooky. Generally I was so pleased with his attitude as none of the fences were a problem, he seems to relish new challenges.

The pix attached are from the weekend just gone, at the riding club area qualifier Intermediate Horse Trials held at MK event centre..
Our team came 2nd, we did one of our best ever dressage tests and got 35.8% sadly the show jumps were a little small, so he was a bit disrespectful and we had 2 down, but the cross country was tough and we went clear with only 3 time faults. Many skinny fences and banks to jump onto and off and 3 massive steps up. He just loved it, I was so pleased with him again he did not put a foot wrong.
Not sure what we have planned next, the only definite is the show jumping for the riding club qualifier in July.

07 06 10 Tregoyd Hot Chocolate at Brand Hall in Shropshire tackling only his second One Day Event.
Rhiannon was delighted with his improvement and attitude to all three phases. He is improving at every outing getting used to the busy
atmosphere of competition, travelling on his own and settling in a strange overnight stable. He has no CB in him but traces back to our original
TB horses in the 1970's prior to taking up our interest in Cleveland Bays. He is a lovely 17.1hh horse who was out of Margaret's TB mare at about 15.1hh. Some vigour!

29th May 2010 - Big Vic (Cholderton Whitethorn x Tregoyd Vision) pure bred gelding preparing for working hunters.
Kate says:
Just thought I would update you with some recent pictures of 'Big Vic'.  He is absoulutey adored by us all even my husband has got on him and he
usually hates horses (typical farmer as he has to pay for them all!) and has never sat on one for years!! We love him so much and he keeps on improving,
Hopefully the next pics you will recieve will be of him in the showring.  The plan is ridden hunter classes.
Vic is looking great Kate. Good luck with the showing. Margaret and Colin

29th May 2010 - Photographs from Sam Garvey of Tregoyd Josie who she rescued earlier in the year. She has her first showing experienced and reports:

Josie (Tregoyd Journeyman x Jessie-posiblybe half CB) went to her first show on Saturday and she was an absolute star and surprised us all.
It was only a clinic for the judges to give their opinon on your horse,
they were very taken by her one judge even said she was the best looking horse she had ever seen, and could she buy her.
They gave me lots of tips to build her up and just riding her eveyday will help this.

It a case of getting out there this summer and seeing how she gets on.
Please
do keep us informed - Colin and Margaret

"Hi Colin, An update on our BE90 at MK, I have been so busy that I have not had a minute to email you, so I apologise for that.
After a very early start, 4.30am, I was generally very pleased with Boo (Tregoyd Court Jester) although we could have done a
much better dressage test, only getting 40.5% as usual. However, he show jumped clear and jumped all the direct routes on the cross country in a much more positive manner. He really took the fences on jumping all of them with ease. I got a few time faults which is annoying as Boo finished hardly having broken into a sweat but I was exhausted.
I need to get fitter or younger.
I have attached some pix. which this lovely lady from the lorry next to us took as a practise for her daughter who was straight after me.
I have entered a BE100 at Brigstock which will seem enormous to me, as our next step.
Hope all is well. Best wishes. Jane"
Good luck Jane at Brigstock and please let us know how you get on. Colin and Margaret

Photos of Tregoyd Sportsman competing at Withington. Sonnie writes about the day with daughter Rhiannon riding:

"Just about recovering from yesterday?s excitement.  We are so thrilled with Sport's performance.
A double clear at your very first full Intermediate is quite something and Withington is known for being a huge course.
Although they ended up placed 14th (out of 42), they were at least rewarded by a couple more BE points for the double clear,
and there were only very few of those yesterday.  Without the time penalties, he would have ended up 7th
Sport is having a couple of well deserved days off now, so I will try to ride Choco today while Rhiannon gets back down to the grindstone of coursework!
Will get back to lots of flatwork with Sport asap."

28 March 2010  - The wonderful 'Big Vic' has turned up after a very worrying time of hearing rumours about him.
He was orginally sold into Yorkshire as a very green riding horse and it became obvious that this was not working out. After a period of
non riding activity he needed some reschooling but this was not well done and Vic became a bit of a problem and his future was in peril.
He was being offered free to anyone who would give him a good home and nothing happened for a while until we had a surprise 'phone
call from his new owner who was a lady also in Yorkshire who has a reputation for rescue and said that she now had Victor and that he was wonderful.
She was so full of enthusiasm for him and had reschooled right from the begining again
and below you can see the results of her work and also some of her comments.

Cautionary tale: do not assume that people who handle TBs and some other horses can necessarily deal with CBs

Pictures of Victor Hunting for the first time on the 18th January with Annie (one of my girls who helps me).  I am on 'Monster' my coloured horse and my other horse 'Gonk' is
ridden by my 13yr old helper who has only been riding for 10 months we had a great day and 'Vic' did impress.
We are hopefully going out on Monday the 1st February as it is another local meet and I prefer to hack novices to the meet it helps alot!

All my horses and most of the other non-equine family are rescued.  It gives me great satisfaction when things go well and people cannot say " I told you so" but great
anxiety and heartbreak when things go wrong.
Nobody wanted Victor everyone was frightened of him and suggested euthanasia. Sorry to swear but Bugger them! Just look at the pictures!!!!

Big Vic is a registered pure bred as Tregoyd Victor who was originally my riding horse. Sire: Cholderton Whitethorn Dam: Tregoyd Vision

Entry 22nd February 2010 - Received this today from SonnieEustace reporting on Tregoyd Sportsman and Hot Tregoyd Chocolate

Rhiannon had a super jump on both the boys last night.  Choco was 4th in the Novice with a lovely double clear ? Rhiannon
didn?t try to go fast against the clock. And just one pole down in the Intermediate so not placed but Rhiannon
is very happy with the way he?s going.  Sport was in terrific form.  Double clear in the Intermediate,
but not placed because Rhiannon took it slowly.  The Open was 3 rounds (each round got higher) and then a jump off against the
clock if anyone was left.  It was a good class which ended up with 6 people in the jump off and the
jumps at 1.25 m.  So this was Sport?s 6th round of jumping for the evening and he was by this time
incredibly excited and they were clear until the very last pole which he knocked!  However, there was only one
clear round, and Sport had the fastest time (4 seconds faster than the winner), so he had a very credible 2nd place.
Rhiannon didn?t intend to go so fast ? Sport took over!  However, it was very exciting and we were absolutely delighted with Sport.

Margaret and I have recently returned for the USA where we attended the Cleveland Bay Horse Society North America
Annual General Meeting.  On the following day there was an invitation hunt with the New Market - Middletown Valley Hounds which
was an oustanding occasion. Cleveland Bay horse owners and riders were especially invited and as a
consequence we witnessed the exciting sight of probably the largest gathering of 18 pure and part-bred Cleveland Bay horses at a hunt meeting ever recorded.

Our personal thanks for the welcome to Margaret and I from Jennifer Webster MFH, New Market - Middletown Valley Hounds
and to all who made this a very special occasion.

26th October 2009

Jane Russell reports on Tregoyd Court Jester (Boo) 26th September
(Thanks Jane for keeping us up-dated on your events. Apologies for late posting on this site. Are you doing any winter activities?)

Boo did his last BE90 for this year at Keysoe in Beds, our dressage was not the best we got 41.5 penalties but he was such a good boy in the show jumping, as this was causing loads of problems, people were being elimated and stopping at all the fences and clattering through them.
I must admit I was worried having watched 10 people go and only 1 got a clear round, but Boo was in his element and stormed round just catching the second last one for 4 faults. But he was so keen it was lovely.
He was the same on the cross country, we had competed in an eventers challenge at Keysoe for a practise a month previous, and Boo galloped round the course eating up the fences for fun with only 1.2 time penalties, 3 seconds over the time. This was his most positive performance yet and I was absolutely thrilled with him.
I was not worried about the dressage test as we have not had anything to pull our trailer, so we have not competed since the eventers challenge, so he was very excited to be going out and I can forgive the non relaxed dressage this time.
I have attached some pix taken by Dave my husband, so you can see how he is looking now.
He is now 16.2hh without his shoes on, as I measured him yesterday when the farrier had taken his shoes off, and he is really filling out now too and becoming quite chunky, he is always commented on when we go anywhere, especially when he is wilful and standing on his back legs.
